Taking on the perspective of a child, this book narrates how, at the Bayan Har Mountains situated at the source of the Yellow River, due to atmospheric warming and the overfeeding of livestock bringing about the degradation of the region, people of Tibetan ethnic origins are forced to abandon their prairies and journey to the city in order to survive, and how their longing for their ancestral lands and their persistent faith finally brings them back to the grassland. This book reproduces the poetic childhood and spiritual world of Tibetan youth. Its prose is solemn and elegant with strong regional flavors. As it reveals local customs and practices of Tibetan regions, it also unintentionally shows the contradictions and conflicts, the fusions and accommodations between a “backward” nomad lifestyle and a “modern” city life, raising a vibrant national spirit and an artistic conception that fits our times. This book also reflects on the harmony and unity of man and nature, man and animal, embodying Tibetan children’s aspiration for beautiful nature, their kind and virtuous inheritance of their elder’s culture, their unswerving faith, etc., brimming with the primitive impulsiveness and magic colors of Tibetan regions that fill the author’s epic imagination. This book has been translated into English, Arabic and Marcedonian.
